Our Story

How we met, and how it’s going…

We met in June of 2019. We actually connected via a dating app of all things. We talked about our shared love of travel, the places we had been; and all the places we wanted to go and just got to know each other. We shared many phone calls and texts before finally deciding that we should meet and see if the connection we felt would carry over face to face.

We will both willingly admit that we didn’t choose our first date location very well. We chose to go to MainEvent, a local place that has bowling, and arcade games. It was pretty loud inside, and we both found it hard to hold a conversation. The first date just felt kind of like a dud. We had hit it off so well and refused to allow that first date to be the end of it. So we talked about it, and agreed to meet for a second date.

For our second date we met up at the park where we could walk and talk. We went for coffee afterwards and followed coffee with dinner at Jinya (a ramen restaurant).

From that day on, we talked/texted/or saw each other as much as we could. There were countless movie and dinner dates. Quite a few miles clocked at the local park. John then invited me to go on his family Disney trip. We enjoyed spending the holidays with each other’s families.

In March of 2020, everything changed. The world came to a halt due to the pandemic. We both began working elbow to elbow from home. With the lease on John’s apartment nearing renewal we decided to buy a home. The same day in April that we began the process of qualifying for a loan, John received notice that he was being laid off. We prayed. I cried, and John looked for new work. John was however blessed with a new job offer the night before we went to close on our home. His new job would have him 100% remote, even when not in a COVID shutdown type of situation. We were worried about his commute from our new home to his old job, and this problem just solved itself.

We moved into our home in June of 2020. With help from family we painted and redid the floors and squeezed all of our possessions into our new home.

In August of 2020 we decided to get a puppy. We decided that our first dog would be a German Shorthaired Pointer (We intend on more than one dog, but 1 thing at a time). We found a local breeder and got on a waitlist. We expected the litter to be born in January of 2021. The puppies arrived happy and healthy, but with only 1 girl. There were not enough girls born for us to get one. So, it was onto the next litter. The next litter was to be born in April. We had first pick of this litter, so all we needed was 1 girl. Gracie (the momma), had 5 girls in that litter. We were overjoyed to hear that our new best friend had just been born.

April 30, 2021 – John proposed to me. We were at home. Having just run some errands. John was being particularly pesty about me finishing cooking dinner. Asking odd questions about where I wanted to sit to watch the baseball game, and if I had somewhere I could put my plate down once I was in there. See what I didn’t realize earlier was that when we were running errands, we had picked up my ring from the UPS store. So he now had the ring he intended to propose with and it was burning a hole in his pocket. He had originally planned on asking me during a planned vacation for our 2 year anniversary in June. He just couldn’t wait that long. He asked. Made me cry happy tears. Then I said yes. Yes to spending forever with this man.

Even though the movies like to show you a proposal, or a wedding and act like that’s the end of the story. It’s not and we aren’t any different.

In June we took our anniversary trip, and stopped by the breeder on the way home to pick up this little nugget. Meet Freyja. She is 15 weeks old at the time of this post. She has been both a joy and a pain in our lives as we all settle into a routine that works for the 3 of us. We’ve been enjoying watching her personality develop. She likes to be tall. Which includes sitting on top of one of us, or stealing our chair when we vacate it. She gets the zoomies after she eats ice cubes. She enjoys the water, as well as all her toys and anything she can chew on.

That’s all for now. Until February, we are planning a wedding and working on training Freyja to potentially be the ring bearer for our ceremony. We are grateful to have the love and support of our family and friends, and can’t wait to celebrate with you soon!
